From Uluwatu to Java's infamous G-land where the waves will be just for you, you’ll carve a route across Indonesia’s most iconic islands. Expect early rides, salt-stung sessions, and the rhythm of the road. Whether you’re a surfer chasing barrels or a rider chasing horizons, this side quest offers a hectic May holiday in paradise.
Request to JoinSurf Coaching + Photography
The moto-surf stoke combo is the focal point of the trip, obviously.
To maximize the chances of excellent surfing every day as well up-skilling throughout the week, you will have a dedicated surf coach along for the ride. They will help determine which break to choose based on local insights, forecasts and group preferences up to 4 days in advance.
In some instances, video analysis will be provided, eg. at the beginning and end of the week to mark the progression. Other photographers and videographers will meet us in different locations to document us on the bikes and in the water. We will edit this and other footage into a short film to share after the trip.
The Route: Uluwatu to G-Land
Bali: Start your journey in Uluwatu and Padang Padang for world-class waves, then escape west Canggu and over to Medewi, Bali’s longest left.
We will then head west past Medewi to ferry over to Java and surf the coast of Alas Purwo National Park enjoying the expert challenge and clear blue waves of G-Land.
The Motorcycles
In partnership with a decade old Bali custom motorcycle maker, Malamadre, we will be riding custom made, island and surf appropriate bikes that look and feel a little bit nicer than your average moped. Transporting you along beaches, through jungles, narrow cut throughs and up mountains, your bike will be your home (aside from the hotels).
The Accommodation
We will stay in handpicked surf lodges and boutique villas — each with a pool and local charm and often right on the water. From Uluwatu's jungle hideouts to G-land's remote camps, every stop blends rest, comfort, and connection.
In some instances, room sharing will occur and you can decide who to bunk up with or we can all draw straws. If you pick the private room option in checkout, this will be provided.
Is This Side Quest For You?
⚡ Let's be honest, this isn't for the lazy, un-athletic, or coy. We will be covering a lot of ground and surfing at least once every day, and then adding a little something after that.
Limited Spaces AvailableThe Bikes
Malamadre Custom Motorcycles will provide the bikes and mechanical assistance. Founded by Dirk in 2015, they have facilities in Canggu, Uluwatu and Lombok.

The Bali to Java Side Quest Rough Itinerary
This is a guiding light that will alter if conditions require it. We will pre-book some accommodation and then keep other nights and days open to serendipitous drifting.
Pre-ride Briefing and Dinner
Please note this itinerary to subject to change.
The final evening before your side quest truly begins, all riders will be invited for an Opening Dinner and Briefing at Mana in Uluwatu near Fetch Surf Concept to meet everyone involved and confirm all last minute details, answer questions etc and set the tone for the days ahead. This will be your chance to ask stupid questions and get stupid answers! And if you haven't already had the chance, you can check on your bike stored at Malamadre Uluwatu 15 minutes away.
Day 1-2: Warm Up Days in Uluwatu
Head to Fetch Surf Concept or the chosen world-famous break in Uluwatu to meet Israel for a surf assessment on the Bukit Peninsula. Spend a day getting accustomed to the bike, your board and the Balinese roads. Prepare bike and supplies for Day 3.
Tackle the legendary, fast, and hollow left-hand barrel at Padang Padang (best on bigger swells) or the multiple powerful sections at Uluwatu.
Day 3: The Assault: (Uluwatu -> Medewi -> G-Land)
This day is intense and will test everyone. A pre-dawn ride to Medewi for a surf session at Medewi Point followed by a ride North to Gilimanuk for the ferry. Arrive in Java early afternoon and ride South to Alas Purwo National Park, where the road becomes a jungle track for 2 hours before arriving in G-Land. Probably skip the sunset surf that day!
Day 4-5: The Prize (G-Land)
Wake up in the jungle, in front of the world's most perfect wave in total isolation, surfing Moneytrees, Kongs and Speedies. Enjoy the wildlife.
Day 6: Jungle Exit (G-Land to Red Island)
Dawn surf at G-Land before heading to Pulau Merah aka Red Island. Afternoon surf and relax in another paradise location.
Day 7-8: Relax at Red Island
Slow the pace. Enjoy the 100% Javanese atmosphere. Surf Pulau Merah. Fun beach break waves, perfect for loosening up the muscles after the G-Land tubes. Works on all tides. Use this time to clean and check the bikes after the park's punishment.
Day 9: The Return (Leg 1: Java -> Bali)
Morning surf at Red Island before riding (3 hours) North to the port. Arriving in Medewi around pm to eat and sleep before a surf there the next morning.
Day 10: The Return (Leg 2: <Medewi/Balian -> Uluwatu/Airport)
Morning surf in Medewi for those who can manage it! Relaxed ride 3-4 hours East back to Canggu before the closing dinner in Canggu, drinks at Malamadre HQ. C'est fin!
Your Hosts
Multi-talented, experienced riders and athletes who will go the extra mile to ensure you get the most of your time on the road and in the water. Expect procedure, energy, community-consideration, ambition and a good time.
Dirk
Owner of Malamadre Motorcycles, Dirk will be working with the surf coach as a co-host to ensure a logistically smooth ride throughout the duration of the trip. Dirk is quite handy as a mechanic too since he builds the bikes from scratch!
Israel
Along for the ride, Israel is an expert surf coach who will be assisting in picking breaks, waves and giving feedback to help you level up each day throughout the side quest. He will be your coach throughout so will be able to assess your skill progression.
Núria
Núria is an adventurous soul who perfectly embodies the Rideaway spirit — freedom, creativity, and connection through movement and exploration. A lifelong surfer, rider, and storyteller, Núria blends her passion for the ocean with a love for the open road. She is hosting the Bali to Lombok Group 2 Side Quest.
Ivan
At the start and end of the trip we will integrate video analysis by a pro surf coach in Bali to assess how you have progressed during the trip.
